Intro: Sin Prisa Travel
a newsletter on exploring and living without rush or hurry f.k.a slow travel
Bonjour Amis ๐๐พ
Welcome! Thank you for being here and making time to support my work.
I'm Elise, a proud California native, slow traveler, and lover of nature.
For the last year, Iโve been on a travel journey โ learning how to explore and live without rush or hurry.
Prior to this I was moving and working at the pace of a bullet train for 10+ years. I lived and worked in amazing places โ but rarely at a slowed or calm pace.
I was always on the go โ jumping from one thing to the next, simply because itโs all I ever knew.ย
After a series of life events including losing my beloved dad, I made a promise to myself to live and explore at the speed of a tortuga but no faster than a sloth.ย
To make good on my promise, I embarked on a year-long sabbatical adopting SIN PRISA as my north star.ย
What is SIN PRISA you ask?
SIN PRISA, pronounced seen-pre-sah, is a Spanish phrase used in many contexts. To me, it is one of the most gentle and loving ways to remind someone (including myself) to take their time and not rush.ย
In practice, I curate my trips and experience with calmness and connection at the center.ย
I prioritize visa free countries and explore destinations for a minimum of 30 days.ย
I take the slowest route opting for transportation like trains or buses.ย
I stay in accommodations in bikeable or walkable neighborhoods.ย
I seek out local experiences to expose myself to new ways of doing and being.
The internet calls this slow travel, but I like to call it SIN PRISA travel.ย
This was not always the case. For years, I traveled with the intention of escaping my fast-paced life only to return home and 10x the speed in which I moved in the world.ย
I believed, with my whole chest, my home country was the problem. This had some truth but it was not the absolute truth.ย
I reached peak dissatisfaction with escaping life and started exploring what it meant to experience it.ย
I let go of my sense of urgency to see the world and decided to live in it.
You may be wondering how I live and travel SIN PRISA in a fast-paced world?ย
Wellโฆ Itโs a journey and luckily I have the privilege of capturing it.ย
My experiences are not always walks in the park, for life is still lifeโn even while traveling. ย
Though with access to 184 visa free countries and 50 beautiful states as an American (shoutout to blue book privilege), my travels have been an endless source of learning.ย
With each trip I find the courage to keep going and growing. Packing my carry-on, taking only what I need.
I spent the last four months meditating (and overthinking, if I am keeping it 100) about what I could share and how I could share it.ย
Luckily, every creative brief centered on one theme โ how travel helped me slow down and enjoy the entirety of my life.ย
More than anything I want to share how it is possible โ even in a fast paced world.ย
So if you are here because you know me or the universe is sending you nudges to slow down, I invite you to subscribe to receive lessons and stories on life in the slow lane. Journey with me every third Sunday to destinations that help me live and explore SIN PRISA.
In the interim, Iโd love to hear from you.
If you could slow travel to any destination where would it be and why? Let me know in the comments below.
For now, check out lessons from Sรฉnรฉgal the majority muslim nation who lives rent free in my heart. One of my greatest teachers on living and exploring without rush or hurry.ย
Abrazos/Hugs,
Eย
Nice, nice and nice
Super nice read
So much clarity in seeing things for what they are but never once stoopping to lay blame, rather use as fuel (good and bad) to chart a slower loving pace.
Love is the way
Loved this read! Canโt wait for the next one ๐ฅฐ I would love to travel to Senegal with you!
